Mark Cox

Mark (BA LLB Hons, University of Melbourne) leads the specialist employment law team at MDC Legal. He has over 19 years practice, mainly in industrial, workplace and employment law. In previously worked in a commercial litigation firm, then as a senior associate of a national firm, and as Principal Solicitor of the Employment Law Centre. Mark is a well-regarded practitioner in workplace relations law, named as a “leading lawyer” in Doyle’s Guide 2014, 2015, 2016, and “market leader” in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition to providing strategic and front end advice and implementing employment contracts, policies and procedures, Mark has conducted litigation and acted as counsel in several jurisdictions on “both sides of the fence” in a wide variety of matters, including injunctions and restraint of trade matters, protected industrial action, contractual claims, general protections and unfair dismissal claims, and bullying and discrimination claims.

Nikita Barsby

Nikita (BA LLB, Murdoch University) is a Senior Associate at MDC Legal, with almost a decade’s experience in workplace and employment law. She is recognised as a recommended employment lawyer in Doyle’s Guide to the Legal Profession in 2018 and 2019. Nikita has worked with Corrs Chambers Westgarth and Lynn & Brown Lawyers, prior to joining MDC Legal. Nikita has advocacy and negotiation experience in the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of Western Australia, in the Fair Work Commission and in the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission. She advises employees and employers on all aspects of State and Federal workplace laws, including unfair dismissals and general protections matters, contractual and statutory rights and obligations, the drafting and interpretation of employment contracts, redundancies, performance management and termination and discrimination. Renae Harg

Renae (BA LLB, University of Western Australia) is a Senior Associate at MDC Legal. Renae has practiced in employment law since 2013. Prior to commencing with MDC Legal, Renae worked at a global law firm and boutique WA employment law firm. Renae has a broad range of experience in providing employment and workplace relations advice and has acted for individuals as well as small, medium and global employers. Renae provides advice and assistance in all employment law matters, including termination of employment, unfair dismissals, adverse action, discrimination, drafting of employment contracts and policies, enterprise bargaining, post-employment restraints and workplace investigations.

Gemma Little

Gemma (BA LLB Hons, University of Western Australia) is an Associate at MDC Legal. Gemma completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology at the University of Western Australia in 2015. Gemma has worked in employment law since 2013, first as a paralegal and then as a lawyer. She has a broad range of experience in providing advice and assistance to both employees and employers. Gemma’s experience includes assisting in statutory and contractual-based claims; drafting employment contracts and workplace policies; and providing legal and strategic advice on employee and employer rights and obligations, transfer of businesses, workplace investigations, disciplinary action, restructuring and redundancy and post-employment restraints.

Madeleine Brown

Madeleine (BA LLB, University of Western Australia) is an Associate at MDC Legal. Prior to joining MDC, Madeleine had a varied professional background, which included working as a paralegal in private practice, volunteering in the community sector and most recently as a lawyer at a peak employer union. As a lawyer at MDC, Madeleine assists clients with tailored solutions across a wide range of employment law matters from unfair dismissal, general protections, and restraint claims to assisting employers conducting disciplinary and performance management procedures, drafting contracts and interpreting modern awards and enterprise agreements.

Lauren Wright

Lauren (BA, JD, University of Western Australia) is a Law Graduate at MDC Legal. Lauren graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Western Australia in 2018 and is currently completing her Practical Legal Training. Lauren has worked in employment law since 2017, as a paralegal at the Employment Law Centre and law clerk with MDC Legal. In these roles, Lauren has drafted practical and concise advice on potential statutory and contractual-based claims, conducted legal research, drafted court documents and corresponded with both potential and existing clients. During her time at university, Lauren volunteered at the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic and Law Access.
